Your First Chiropractic Visit

low back pain relief with chiropractic care

When you come into our South San Francisco Chiropractic Office you will have to fill and sign a couple of simple forms. If you would like to save 15 minutes, go to the home page and fill them on-line or print them and fill them by hand before you get to the office.

Our office will also copy your insurance card and verify your benefits for you. Of course, many people I treat don't have insurance coverage, so don't worry about affordability. I will work it out with you.

The first thing I will do is ask you about your problem. I will ask you a series of questions to help determine the nature of your illness and the best way to go about treating the problem.

I will then perform a physical examination including a thorough spinal analysis to detect any structural abnormalities which may be affecting or causing your condition.

If necessary, your first visit may require x-rays, or other diagnostic procedures.

I will only commence with treatment if I feel I can help you. If I do proceed, treatment will consist of gentle joint mobilization or manipulation called an "adjustment". An "adjustment" is the specific manipulation of a joint that has abnormal alignment, movement patterns, or function. The medical term for these is "subluxation".

I will pay particular attention to the area of your body where a "subluxation" has been detected. I will adjust the vertebra with my hands by applying pressure to the area that is subluxated.

Under most circumstances, adjustments are not painful. Adjustments are extremely safe as long as they are performed by a chiropractor. There is less than a 1 in 5 million chance of an adverse reaction to an adjustment.

Your treatment may also include other manual therapies to expedite your healing and accelerate your pain relief.

You will be expected to become active in your own treatment. This will include home stretches and or exercises, the application of ice or heat to the affected area, and work or lifestyle changes. These all help to avoid aggravating your condition or impeding the treatment effectiveness.
